"But every day is geek pride day", you insist.
Well this is different. There will be beer.
The PROTOSPACE teaser has been updated to include brief glimpses of activity in the space, and an explanation by Paul about what we're trying to accomplish.
PROTOSPACE members were in attendance at COSSFest 2010 (Calgary Open Source Software Festival), demonstrating sample projects and checking out the 2-days-2-tracks worth of talks. Shawn provides a brief re-cap:
Protospacers showed off our projects, gave semi-technical lectures and drank beer with a protospace-full of guests.
Here's Wil's talk, in which he illuistrates how packets are moved around a local area network by having audience members swap chocolate bars. 3 nefarious attacks are demonstrated. Chocolate is eaten.
But it was only milk chocolate, so no big deal.
(Relayed from Paul's email...)
Thanks to all of your support, Protospace is now legit. This thing is happening people!
Late last week, we finally got the paperwork back: Calgary Protospace Ltd. is a private non-profit corporation in Alberta. Tonight, myself & wintr opened a business bank account to handle the operational finances of this corporation.
Now it's your turn. As someone who pledged money to the creation of this project, we need your help. Specifically, we need your money. We need your initial payments to be able to sign the lease and pay for the rent on this new space.

As PROTOSPACE continues our search for a home, we've been holding meetings in public spaces at Eau Claire Market. At one such event, Ben gave a talk called "Astronomy for Hackers":
Ben managed to complete this 20 minute presentation without a single security guard wondering what was up with all the cameras. Possibly due to his clean cut looks, and use of long words. Want to loiter in a mall without arousing suspicion? I'd recommend having Ben around.
We shot this promotional video outside Eau Claire Market to promote the concept of PROTOSPACE, and help build membership.
