2. Complexity - The single IC is nice, but the soldering can be confusing for a newb (read: me). It needs to be so simple that we can do a first timer's workshop with this.<br>

1. Easy to solder - No matrices, just pin to LED to ground.<br>
2. Cheap - Aiming to have the kit for around $25 bucks.<br>
3. Open - The chip should be able to be pulled out and reprogrammed however anyone wants.

Paul Badger provided code that basically pulses all pins on the Arduino to provide 12 PWMish channels off of the Arduino, which only has 6. This provides 12 discrete lights that all glow and dim independently. As I understand it, a sine wave is used to create values that are written to the pins, and when it goes over 255 it rolls over per pin. So it's not a wave on the lights, kinda a PRN.

I ran the code on one of Arduino's and it's quite nice to look at. I had been told that LEDs can be used without resistors when they are not lit solid all the time. I had half on resistors and half off. The half that were on were never really bright enough, where as the ones without didn't burn out and looked nice.

Next I put the code on an Ardweeny to see if we could minimize the whole thing and run it straight off of a USB power pack, a computer, or a Blackberry AC adapter. It all worked. Here's the video with the Ardweeny and USB power pack.
