Thursday night became an impromptu 3D Printer Maintenance Master Class!
Aaron was in the space with his new Kossel Delta kit. It was fun to see this machine move, they are so different in operation from the cartesian style.
Nick and Aaron bought these kits from Aliexpress. While there is still work to do, and there has been some frustrations, Aaron is mostly enjoying the process of getting this machine operational. Once calibrated it will be exciting to see what it can produce.
Speaking of Nick, I got an opportunity to learn as he took the space’s 3D printer hot end apart to clear a severe clog.
Ordinarily when a 3D printer clogs there are a couple of simple things you can do. First is to do a “Cold Pull”. A Cold Pull is where you pull a fresh piece of filament out of the nozzle along with the gummed up blockage. Set a temperature cool enough to keep the filament all in one long piece but with sufficient heat to make the plastic pull away. Another option is to see if you can push past the clog by forcing more filament.
Unfortunately in this case the assembly needed taking apart to get right down in there. Nick being well experienced in the process managed to get everything cleaned up and back in operation in no time, and without any severe burns.
Thanks for the master class Nick!
